Serena Saskatchewan presents a Medieval Feast from 6:30-9:30 p.m. Feb. 10, 2017 at Our Lady of Lourdes Parish in Saskatoon. Tickets are free thanks to charitable donors – this is a fundraiser so please be generous. The evening includes a catered feast, a wine toss and wassail, silent auction, 50-50 draw, and entertainment. Dress code is “Medieval” with awards for best dressed.  * Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS) - A CGS workshop for those working with preschoolers will be held 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 10 at St Francis Xavier parish in Saskatoon (corner of Hilliard Cr. and Melrose Ave.) The CGS workshop is for anyone who cares for or loves young children (including parents, preschool and primary teachers, daycare providers, stay-at-home moms, homeschooling parents, and grandparents, etc.). The CGS workshop will provide insight into the needs of the 3-to-6-year-old child, some practical ideas to deepen their relationship with God, as well as hands-on experience. The Rite of Election will be held 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 18, 2018 at the Cathedral of the Holy Family, 123 Nelson Road, Saskatoon: Everyone is welcome to this diocesan celebration, with Bishop Mark Hagemoen presiding.

Please note that for the first time in many years, this year's Rite of Election will also include celebration of the Sunday Eucharist for the First Sunday of Lent.

A Foundations Series on Christianity and Islam will be held 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 30, Thursday, Feb. 1, and Tuesday, Feb. 6 at St. Michael’s Parish, 18 - 33rd St. East, Saskatoon. Why should Christians care about Muslims and Muslims care about Christians? Dr. Michael Pomedli, adjunct Professor of Philosophy at the University of Saskatchewan will discuss similarities and differences to work toward greater understanding, respect, and harmonious co-existence. We will look at the life of Mohammad, as well as similarities, differences, and interdependences of Christianity and Islam. We will also look at the six main principles of Shariah law. There will be an opportunity to make a free will offering each evening.

* Contemplative Mass will be led by Fr. Kevin McGee 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 2 at St. Augustine Church, 602 Boychuk Dr. in Saskatoon. The rhythm of the Contemplative Mass is a gentle, steady flow, marked by 20 minutes of silence after Communion. It is designated to allow space for reflection and recognition of the intimate presence of Christ who comes to us through scripture and the Eucharist. Silence within this form of worship can feel uncomfortable or awkward, especially when experienced for the first time. We encourage you to relax and rest in the abiding presence of God.
