* SEARCH Retreat 2017 - A powerful youth experience of faith maturity will be held Oct. 20-22 in Saskatoon for any interested youth in Grades 9-12. Have you ever asked yourself:  Who am I? Where do I belong? What am I going to do with my life? Where is God in my life? Do you desire: To be a good person? To make a difference? To be more like Christ? SEARCH for Christian Maturity has something to offer you -- it is an entire weekend designed for youth and led by youth with guidance from a small group of adults. Chew on This! is an annual event organized by Citizens for Public Justice and the Dignity for All campaign. Each year, volunteers go out to their communities on Oct. 17, the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty, to hand out lunch bags containing a food item, a magnet, and a postcard directed to the federal government. This year’s campaign is calling for a comprehensive national strategy to reduce poverty. * DECISION MAKING IN HEALTHCARE (FOUNDATIONS COURSE at Holy Spirit Parish. One, two-hour session.) Mary Deutscher, bioethicist for St. Paul's Hospital and the Catholic Health Association of Saskatchewan, will take a look at how each of us makes decisions, paying particular attention to decisions made in a healthcare setting.  As an example, we will explore the Catholic Church's teachings on feeding tubes and how these teachings can help us if we are faced with a seemingly impossible choice. This presentation will be held at Holy Spirit Parish, 114 Kingsmere Place, Monday, October 16 at 7:00 pm. Making difficult health care decisions involves the same process we use to make other difficult decisions, ethicist Mary Deutscher said at a recent diocesan Foundations: Exploring Our Faith Together program hosted Oct. 16, 2017 by Holy Spirit Parish in Saskatoon.

The ethicist for St. Paul’s Hospital and the Catholic Health Association of Saskatchewan engaged her listeners in a reflection on making decisions and the role of conscience, before addressing some specific scenarios related to artificial nutrition and hydration.

Fatima anniversary Oct. 13 - A diocesan celebration will be held in Saskatoon on Friday, Oct. 13 to mark the 100th anniversary of Our Lady of Fatima’s appearance to three shepherd children and the miracle of the sun that was witnessed by some 100,000 pilgrims in 1917. To mark this special anniversary, everyone is invited to become pilgrims and join in prayer on Oct. 13 starting with the Worldwide Children and Family Holy Hour of Adoration, to be held from 6 p.m.to 7 p.m. at the Cathedral of the Holy Family, 123 Nelson Road, Saskatoon. Following the Holy Hour, the pilgrimage will move to St. Mary's Parish, 211 Avenue 0 South, Saskatoon, with celebration of Mass at 7:30 p.m., including an indoor procession with the statue of Our Lady of Fatima. All are invited, all are welcome.Become united with the millions of pilgrims around the world who will gather in Adoration before the Real Precence of Jesus in the Eucharist and in celebration at the table of Our Lord on this historic anniversary of the Miracle of the Sun. This is an opportunity for children, families, and everyone to spiritually unite in praying for peace, as Our Lady of Fatima requested.

The rhythm of the Contemplative Mass is a gentle, steady flow, marked by 20 minutes of silence after Communion. It is designated to allow space for reflection and recognition of the intimate presence of Christ who comes to us through scripture and the Eucharist. Silence within this form of worship can feel uncomfortable or awkward, especially when experienced for the first time. We encourage you to relax and rest in the abiding presence of God.
